Saints & Thieves: Chapter One

He wasn’t a small man, by any means. He was as tall as he was broad, and despite both, his suit still fit exceptionally well. A gold signet ring circled the pinky of his right hand—a hand he brought up to rub his face when he looked at (REDACTED).

It wasn’t just a look of sympathy—he looked utterly destroyed at the sight of her.


I’ve been really digging deep to get back to writing the way I used to—not just in quantity, but in the writing that made me fall in love with the work in the first place. Extravagant plots and carefully maneuvered pieces are my absolute favorite, and knowing that Saints is laying the foundation for a future series, it’s taken a lot of care and consideration while completing the first draft.

I’m sure I’ve mentioned my writing process before on my former blog (which hi! welcome to my new space here) but I don’t write in the traditional sense where I finish one draft after the next and edit in between. I’m more of a write, write some more, edit, tweak, delete, write again and cycle through their process until the book is finished.

So while I’m technically finishing my “first” draft once I get to the end, it’s actually more like draft fifteen.

Which is a blessing and a curse, I admit.

And while I’ve tried to curb this—considering it’s the reason it takes me a bit longer to finish projects—unfortunately (and fortunately), it’s the way my art is made.

That being said, my editing focus is on Massimo Barone. I never know where a character is going when I first start writing—I’m never sure if they’re going to be terribly fleshed out, killed in some brutal way, or a combination of the two. Right now, I’m adding the muscle and fatty tissues to his bones and the role he plays in Saints is becoming delightedly more interesting.
